World Read Aloud Day

Today is World Read Aloud Day, a project of to encourage literacy around the globe.

Our day started with a video announcement featuring scenes from last week's Read Across America including a short clip of Mr. Anderson reading Yertle the Turtle to a kindergarten class. For the joke of the day, Mr. Anderson read one of the riddle bookmarks we handed out during libray time.

Q:  What is orange and sounds like parrot?
A:  A carrot!

Students in library classes took turns reading the riddles aloud. The 4th graders browsed through joke books and came up with other jokes to read out loud.
